Position Overview:
Join a cutting-edge defense engineering team supporting the development of advanced military vehicle and platform technologies. This role is responsible for ensuring the safe operation of complex software, electrical, mechanical, and mechatronic systems throughout the product development lifecycle. The successful candidate will work closely with software, systems, hardware, and controls engineering teams to identify hazards, evaluate risk, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with defense and functional safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:
• Collaborate within a cross-functional engineering environment to define and develop system-level Technical Safety Requirements
• Lead safety activities throughout the systems engineering development lifecycle
• Evaluate customer safety requirements and determine compliance with applicable standards and specifications
• Develop and execute safety verification and validation plans
• Define and execute risk management activities using: Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) / Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) / Simulation and test environments
• Conduct safety analyses and generate reports supporting design decisions and risk mitigation strategies
• Perform and maintain: Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) / Functional Hazard Analysis (FHA) / Hazard Tracking and Risk Assessments
• Support safety requirement development, traceability, validation, and compliance within system specifications
• Work closely with software and hardware engineering teams to identify safety hazards and implement mitigation strategies
• Coordinate safety engineering activities across multiple programs and technical teams
• Support design reviews by identifying safety-related risks and recommending corrective actions
• Mentor and support junior functional safety engineers
• Assist in the development and continuous improvement of safety processes, procedures, and best practices

Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Required Qualifications
• U.S. Citizenship required
• Bachelor's Degree in: Computer Engineering / Computer Science / Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering / Systems Engineering / Related Engineering Discipline
• Minimum 4 years of experience in functional safety, systems safety, systems engineering, or related engineering discipline
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret DoD Security Clearance
• Strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and hazard analysis techniques
• Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams
• Ability to identify safety hazards and develop effective mitigation strategies
• Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
• Experience supporting defense, military, aerospace, automotive, or safety-critical systems
• Working knowledge of: MIL-STD-882 System Safety / ISO 26262 Functional Safety
• Experience developing safety cases and supporting certification activities
• Experience integrating functional safety into systems engineering tools and processes
• Knowledge of vehicle systems, autonomous systems, controls, software, and embedded systems
• Experience supporting design reviews and technical risk assessments
