Job Summary
This will apply systems engineering principles in the development of project plans, requirements, design, and validation of multidisciplinary system solutions. This role will drive the design of complex defense systems by collaborating with internal engineering disciplines, external suppliers, and customers. The Defense Systems Engineer II will also receive mentoring and support from team members on project execution and customer engagement.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Develop system and sub-system requirements, including decomposition and traceability to component-level requirements.
• Lead vehicle- and subsystem-level integration efforts.
• Create and manage requirements, validation plans, and test data to ensure designs meet customer objectives.
• Utilize simulation tools (e.g., Simulink, LabVIEW) to model complex systems to support requirements definition and design activities.
• Coordinate and integrate design input across multiple engineering disciplines, suppliers, and customers.
• Design and develop hardware, systems, and validation testing setups.
• Integrate new components into established architectures.
• Evaluate and integrate new hardware upgrades and legacy technologies into defense systems.
Qualifications/Desired Skills
• U.S. Citizenship.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, designing, and optimizing complex systems.
• Hands-on experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
• Experience developing and writing requirements definitions.
• Master’s degree in engineering or computer science.
• Proficiency in designing, configuring, and testing data networks to ensure performance and reliability.
• Experience in engineering and integrating ground vehicle electronics systems and subsystems.
• Familiarity with the V-Model development process and methodologies.
• Proficiency in creating and managing SysML and Simulink diagrams and models.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, CANBUS, PCIe, video distribution networks, and in-vehicle networks.
• Ability to interface with software, network, and hardware development and integration teams.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to quickly assimilate and apply new concepts, technologies, and business models.
• Working knowledge of Vetronics systems and applications.
• Experience in business process analysis (creation, refinement, and gap analysis).
• Strong customer communication skills, with the ability to actively listen and tailor solutions.
• Knowledge of network topology, communications standards, and protocols.
• Current or ability to obtain a Secret DoD security clearance.
• Familiarity with defense system architecture frameworks (e.g., MOSA, GCIA, FACE).
