Position Overview
Under professional supervision, the Quality Inspector is responsible for evaluating product documentation, performing inspections and measurements, ensuring process compliance, and preparing accurate reports. This role plays a key part in maintaining product integrity and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Read and interpret work orders, engineering drawings, inspection manuals, and blueprints to determine appropriate inspection and testing methods.
• Perform detailed inspections of incoming materials, in-process parts, and finished products to verify conformance with specifications.
• Create inspection criteria and check sheets for all incoming products and components.
• Record inspection data, mark accepted/rejected items, and prepare formal inspection reports.
• Follow the Non-Conforming Material (NCM) procedure for handling products that do not meet required standards.
• Reject or discard defective materials, products, or equipment as necessary.
• Test and measure product components and assemblies for functionality, accuracy, and operational compliance with specifications.
• Read dials, gauges, and meters to ensure test equipment is operating correctly and remains calibrated.
• Maintain control of calibrated measurement equipment in accordance with Corporate QA guidelines.
• Use standard inspection tools including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and dial indicators.
• Collaborate with vendors and internal teams regarding inspection outcomes, recommending corrective actions and process improvements.
• Support the organization's Quality Management System and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Desired Skills
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in mechanical inspection or visual quality inspection.
• Proficient in interpreting technical documentation and engineering drawings.
• Strong attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Familiarity with quality standards and inspection procedures in a manufacturing or production environment.
• Experience in a regulated industry (e.g., aerospace, automotive, medical devices) is a plus.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 or AS9100 quality systems.
• Basic understanding of root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) processes.
