Position Overview:
This role will oversee evening maintenance operations while performing advanced diesel diagnostics and repairs. This role is responsible for leading a small team of technicians, prioritizing workflow, and ensuring repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Oversight
• Lead and support 2nd shift diesel technicians, providing guidance on diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance procedures.
• Assign daily work tasks and prioritize repair orders to ensure efficient workflow and on-time completion.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for the 2nd shift team and communicate updates to management.
• Mentor junior technicians and assist with training on proper repair procedures and safety practices.
• Ensure all work performed meets company quality and safety standards.
Diesel Mechanic Duties
• Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical issues in medium to heavy-duty diesel vehicles including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and electrical components.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, brake inspections, fluid checks, and preventative maintenance.
• Conduct trailer maintenance including welding, fabrication, structural repairs, and electrical troubleshooting.
• Perform tire service including replacement, repair, balancing, and wheel alignments.
• Test-drive vehicles to verify repairs and ensure proper performance and safety.
• Maintain accurate service records and document repairs performed.
• Ensure proper use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and shop resources.
• Follow all company safety policies and OSHA guidelines.
Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
• 3+ years of experience as a diesel mechanic working on medium to heavy-duty vehicles.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair diesel engines and related systems.
• Experience with trailer maintenance, including welding, fabrication, and electrical repairs.
• Experience performing tire replacement, repair, and wheel alignments.
• Prior experience in a lead technician or team lead role preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently while also leading and supporting a team.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
