Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Automotive Laboratory Technician I to support engineering and testing operations in a fast-paced automotive R&D environment. This role plays a critical part in supporting the research, development, validation, and certification of vehicles, powertrain systems, components, and materials.

The ideal candidate will have a mechanical mindset, strong troubleshooting ability, and a passion for automotive technology. This position is responsible for setting up and supporting laboratory tests, collecting accurate test data, maintaining equipment, and assisting engineers in executing complex experimental procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with automotive, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or fabrication experience looking to grow in a highly technical testing environment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support execution of engineering test procedures while collecting accurate, high-quality data
• Operate specialized test equipment, which may include: Dynamometers / Cylinder combustion analyzers / Exhaust emissions analyzers / Flow meters / Force actuators and load cells / Environmental chambers / Material property measurement equipment
• Install test units onto test stands, including: Mounting fixtures / Electrical connections / Fluid connections / Instrumentation setup
• Assist with troubleshooting and resolving issues involving: Test units / Equipment control software / Data acquisition systems / Instrumentation / Facility systems
• Perform routine maintenance and replacement of test equipment components
• Maintain accurate records of tests performed, maintenance completed, and parts replaced
• Work directly with engineers to execute tests at specific operating conditions
• Support calibration and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure accuracy and ISO compliance
• Monitor testing closely and identify abnormalities before they become larger issues

Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 1 year of experience in one or more of the following: Mechanical / Electrical / Instrumentation / Fabrication
• Valid driver’s license
• Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn new software and systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational and customer service skills
• Basic understanding of: Automotive powertrain systems / Fuel systems / Mechanical components / Material properties
• Ability to follow detailed procedures and accurately document test results
Preferred Qualifications
• Basic automotive mechanical experience
• Comfortable working around test equipment, engines, and vehicles
• Strong troubleshooting instincts and hands-on problem-solving ability
• Ability to recognize abnormal test conditions and stop testing when necessary
• Strong attention to detail in inspections and documentation
• Dependable attendance and strong communication
• Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
