Position Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Chassis Dyno Operator to support engineering research, development, and certification testing in an advanced automotive testing environment at our Dearborn, Michigan facility.
The Chassis Dyno Operator will support testing of vehicles / powertrain systems / sub-systems / components / materials while collecting high-quality data using specialized test equipment, instrumentation, control software, and data acquisition systems. This role is critical in ensuring accurate testing, maintaining equipment functionality, and supporting engineers in executing complex experimental test procedures. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with automotive testing, dyno, engine, or emissions experience who enjoy hands-on technical work in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Support execution of test procedures while collecting accurate, high-quality data using specialized testing equipment
• Operate and monitor chassis dynamometer systems and related testing equipment
• Support diagnosis and issue resolution for: unit under test / control software / instrumentation / data acquisition systems / facility systems
• Work directly with engineers to operate vehicles and test equipment under experimental conditions
• Assist with calibration and maintenance of test equipment to ensure accuracy and ISO compliance
• Monitor testing processes and identify abnormalities or performance issues
• Maintain accurate testing documentation and data records
• Support continuous improvement and testing efficiency initiatives
Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Required Qualifications
• High School Diploma / GED / equivalent
• Strong computer skills and ability to learn new software and systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Good customer service and organizational skills
• Basic knowledge of: internal combustion engines / fuel systems / mechanical components / material properties
• Ability to learn and follow detailed test procedures while accurately recording data
• Must be able to drive, or be willing to learn to drive, manual transmission vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
• Associate Degree / Technical School certification
• Minimum 2 years of experience testing: powertrains / engines / fuel systems / emissions / chassis components / material properties
• Experience operating or calibrating: emissions analyzers / flow meters / tensile test machines
• Valid Driver’s License
• Strong MS Office skills: Excel / Word / PowerPoint
• Knowledge of common automotive testing equipment and software
• Knowledge of emissions equipment: Horiba analyzers / AVL gas analyzers / smoke meters / opacity meters
• Ability to diagnose issues involving: engines / powertrains / experimental test setups
