Position Overview
The Automotive Mechanic I supports a prototype vehicle environment by modifying cars and trucks and performing hands-on diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance. This role is intended for candidates with 1–2 years of real-world vehicle wrenching experience who are ready to apply foundational mechanical skills in a professional shop setting. The Automotive Mechanic I will receive mentorship and technical support while contributing directly to project work and customer deliverables.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform hands-on mechanical and electrical repairs by working from repair orders, technical instructions, or leader direction.
• Conduct inspections to maintain vehicle functionality and identify required repairs or adjustments.
• Diagnose and repair basic mechanical and electrical system malfunctions; replace parts and components as needed.
• Read, interpret, and accurately follow service manuals and procedures.
• Document work performed by entering service notes, repair details, and work orders.
• Assist in maintaining shop equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting issues, and supporting preventive maintenance activities.
• Participate in daily shop organization, cleanliness, and safety practices.

Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–2 years of hands-on experience working on vehicles, performing mechanical repairs in a professional or structured shop environment (not classroom-only or hobby experience).
• Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools.
• Certificate in Automotive Technology or a related field.
• ASE Certification(s).
• State Mechanic Certification(s).
• Valid driver’s license.
