Position Overview:
We need a highly skilled, hands-on, and forward-thinking Mechanic to take ownership of our fleet maintenance operations supporting our growing snow removal, concrete, and landscaping divisions. Day to day operations will oversee the maintenance, repair, and overall reliability of our fleet and equipment supporting snow removal, concrete, and landscaping operations throughout the Detroit area. This leadership role is responsible for diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues, performing welding and fabrication work, implementing preventative maintenance programs, and ensuring all equipment remains safe, operational, and field-ready year-round. The ideal candidate takes ownership of the shop and fleet, leads by example, thinks proactively to minimize downtime, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where reliability and responsiveness are critical to business success.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Fleet & Equipment Maintenance
• Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain company vehicles and equipment across all divisions including: Snow removal equipment / Commercial trucks and trailers / Landscaping equipment / Concrete saws, mixers, and support equipment / Skid steers, loaders, and small engine equipment
• Perform repairs involving: Diesel and gas engines / Hydraulics / Electrical systems / Brakes and suspensions / Drivetrain systems / Welding and fabrication
• Ensure all equipment remains operational, safe, and field-ready year-round.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns during snow events or critical operational periods.
Preventative Maintenance Leadership
• Develop and manage a proactive preventative maintenance program for the entire fleet.
• Create systems for: Service scheduling / Equipment inspections / Repair tracking / Seasonal readiness / Downtime reduction
• Identify recurring mechanical issues and implement long-term solutions.
• Forecast equipment needs and recommend upgrades or replacements before failures occur.
Welding & Fabrication
• Perform welding and fabrication repairs on equipment, trailers, plows, brackets, and structural components.
• Modify or fabricate parts and equipment solutions when necessary.
• Assist with custom fabrication projects to improve operational efficiency and equipment performance.
Shop Leadership & Accountability
• Lead and mentor mechanics and shop personnel.
• Establish shop organization, cleanliness, and operational standards.
• Prioritize repairs and manage workflow to support operational demands.
• Hold team members accountable to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
• Work closely with operations leadership to align fleet readiness with business needs.
Inventory & Vendor Management
• Maintain organized inventory of parts, fluids, tools, and shop supplies.
• Coordinate purchasing and vendor relationships.
• Track parts usage and reduce unnecessary spending through proper inventory control.
• Ensure critical replacement parts are stocked during snow season.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure all fleet maintenance and repair work meets company safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Promote safe shop practices and proper equipment operation.
• Maintain accurate service records, inspection logs, and repair documentation.

Desired Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Required Experience
• 5+ years of experience in fleet, heavy equipment, diesel, or commercial vehicle maintenance.
• Prior leadership or shop management experience preferred.
• Experience supporting snow removal, landscaping, construction, or outdoor service operations strongly preferred.
• Strong welding and fabrication experience required.
Skills & Abilities
• Advanced mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to independently manage fleet maintenance priorities.
• Strong understanding of preventative maintenance strategies.
• Leadership mentality with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
• Ability to think ahead, identify problems early, and improve systems.
• Comfortable working in high-pressure environments during peak seasons.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
• CDL license preferred but not required.
• ASE certifications or equivalent experience are a plus.
• Experience with hydraulic systems and electrical diagnostics highly preferred.
• Experience operating heavy equipment is beneficial.
